Now and Then: Tales of Immigration and Resiliency explores the multiplicity of identities and shared experiences of the Hispanic community in Canada. It also delves into the connection we have with our roots, as the axis for rediscovering ourselves and facing new challenges in these uncertain times. On the one hand, the artists of this virtual exhibition, explore themes such as: the contrast between their identities, matters surrounding acculturation and enculturation, the loss of connections with their heritage in order to fit into Canadian standards, and feelings of isolation and misplacement as a consequence of this deculturation. On the other hand, they also address the importance of community and connecting with their culture, traditions and family, as a means of healing and overcoming grief. Their work reflects the significance of reconciling new or existing identities, finding connections with our cultural groups, and taking care of ourselves as a community.
